Day 14 - On Target

I am not sure why I haven't been posting lately, other than the fact that I have been struggling through this week. I am craving chocolate and crisps and all sorts, but have managed to stay on track 100%!
I did not even post my loss from week one (6lbs). I achieved my walking target for July, but not my Wii Fit one. I'm not too bummed,  20 miles is good!

Last night at weigh in I lost 1.5lbs and got my half stone award - Right on schedule!

My August challenges are walk 50 miles, complete 30 day shred on level 1 and try one new recipe a week.

Day 6 : The Doctor Will See You Now

I've skipped a few days on the blog but that doesn't mean I have skipped out on the diet! This is day 6 at 100% on track! yay for me!! I've not been incredibly too good about exercising, just a little walking so I need to step up the workouts moving forward if I am to meet my targets!

My food intake has mainly consisted of chicken, fruit , veg and pasta. I used some syns for peanut butter yesterday which was nice as a treat. I am starting to struggle alot as I am craving cakes and sweets, but I haven't given in!

Today I had my return appointment with my surgeon and it turns out i lost 0.3kg since I saw him last (March 1st) that's only about 1lb, which obviously he was disappointed with, but to me I was pleased, because I have lost what I gained during that time and it means that Iam on trak for a 4+ lb loss when I get weighed tomorrow :)

Day 3 : Geocaching Adventure

About a month ago my son and I took up geocaching as both a cheap summer activity and a good way to help me get fitter. We have enjoyed it recently, but have mainly been grabbing small urban caches. However, we bought a GPS device recently and decided to tackle some of the bigger caches hidden down in the forest around the local country park! It was around 30 degrees today so we headed out armed with suncream, water and a Syn free picnic!

First stop of the day was Baby G which took us on a nice hike by the river. We ended up not being able to find the cache, but we did enjoy some beautiful scenery, and met some wildlife including Swans, squirrels, grasshoppers, frogs and a creepy jawbone we think might belong to a deer.

We stopped in a gorgeous clearing for lunch which consisted of Strawberries, Apples, Grapes, Smoked Salmon, Dairylea Light and Wholemeal Bread. Then it was back into the woods as we headed directly to the loch for out next cache.

Our next target was 'Bothwellhaugh' the site of an old village which now lives under the lake! We found this one fairly easily and were delighted to find a tracker bug looking for a route to Japan!

Next up was 'Care of Magical Creatures' and when we hit ground zero it was easy to see why the cache got this name! It was like being in the forbidden forest. Unfortunately we could not find the cache this time, but we will be back! It was pretty hot by now, so we decided to pick up just one more with 'The Theme of This Cache is Amusing' which was a clever little magnetic cache near the theme park.

All in all we racked up 3.46 miles and 2 caches, plus a tracker bug which gets me back on track for my 20 mile challenge! Plus it's Day 3 of 100!!

I'll be honest, I did not expect the going to get tough quite so soon, but my body did not want to co-oporate and I had the mother of all migraines. My usual cure is lucozade and dark chocolate.

However I managed to stay on track with plenty of water and fruit. I did eat a small bar of chocolate, but it was within my syns and I threw up soon after from the pain so I am not worried.

No excercise today due to the pain!

Day 2 of 100 complete!! :)

Fanta Chicken Recipe

A few years ago I used to make diet coke chicken and it was delish, so when I heard about Fanta chicken I was all over it! I did  little tweaking to my own taste, but it is still syns free for Slimming World.

Ingredients

  • Diced chicken breast
  • Peppers
  • Onions
  • Carrots
  • Pineapple
  • Pasatta
  • Fanta Zero
  • Vinegar
  • Sweetener
  • Veg Stock (optional)

Method

Fry of the chicken either in fry lite or in a little veg stock, I do ll my frying in stock! When the chicken is halfway cooked add chopped peppers, carrots and onions (and any veg). Meanwhile in a pot mix 2 cups of pasatta, 600ml of fanta zero, a tablespoon of vinegar and sweetener to taste. Bring the sauce to the boil and then simmer for 15-20 mins until it thickens up then combine with youe meat and veg.

Serve with rice, noodles or potato. Add pineapple chunks at the very end as you serve. (if you cook them you need to syn them)

It tastes similar to sweet & sour sauce and is yummy.

Day 1 of Slimming World [100% Challenge]

So today is the first day of following the Slimming World plan, and I am setting myself a challenge called 100% For 100 Days! It seems like a big ask, and I was going to do a 30 day challenge, but if I am going to be serious about this then it is time to go big or go home (or should that be get small or go home?) . Anyway, 100% for 100 days fits together better!

It has gone pretty well so far, I still feels.pretty positive.  My son brought me home a sandwich but it was 23.5 syns so I declined, but felt obliged to drink the J2O which was 4.5 empty syns. This is what my food diary looks like :-

Breakfast

2 x 0% Fat Shape Delight Yoghurts
2 x Whole Apricots

Lunch

5 x slices of roast beef
45g Feta Cheese [HEA]
Cherries
Banana
Grapes
j2o [4.5 syns]

Dinner

Noodles/Pasta (not enough of either left!)
King Prawns
Chicken Fillets
2/3 of a sachet of Asia Hoisin sauce [5 syns]

In terms of excercise I did 30 mins on Wii Fit (20 mins of step and 10 mins of HulaHoop)

Here I Go Again...

Bathroom Scale
Bathroom Scale (Photo credit: -Paul H-)
I have pretty much struggled with my weight from my teens and from time to time I have managed to lose a chunk of weight, but I can't say that I have ever really been happy with my weight. I really need to lose some weight in order to have surgery that I need to remove my gallstones, but I lack the motivation needed. I have tried Weight Watchers on and off and I have attempted to make a start on my own, but I am just hovering around the same weight (which I estimate to be around 325lbs).

It has been 4 months since I last saw my surgeon and I  am now preparing to face him next week and tell him that I have gained weight rather than losing anything! This has to end now! I am setting myself a challenge here and now to get healthy! It just so happens that tonight there is a Slimming World class close to my home, so I am going to give that a try. I am also going to set myself some exercise challenges.

I will use this blog as a journal, a recipe book and a record of my progress with the ultimate goal of losing 100lbs before my graduation next year (approx September 2014). That equates to approximately 1.6lbs per week which I think is do-able!

This blog is mainly for myself, but I will leave it public in case it helps anyone else out there!
