Day 3 : Geocaching Adventure

About a month ago my son and I took up geocaching as both a cheap summer activity and a good way to help me get fitter. We have enjoyed it recently, but have mainly been grabbing small urban caches. However, we bought a GPS device recently and decided to tackle some of the bigger caches hidden down in the forest around the local country park! It was around 30 degrees today so we headed out armed with suncream, water and a Syn free picnic!

First stop of the day was Baby G which took us on a nice hike by the river. We ended up not being able to find the cache, but we did enjoy some beautiful scenery, and met some wildlife including Swans, squirrels, grasshoppers, frogs and a creepy jawbone we think might belong to a deer.

We stopped in a gorgeous clearing for lunch which consisted of Strawberries, Apples, Grapes, Smoked Salmon, Dairylea Light and Wholemeal Bread. Then it was back into the woods as we headed directly to the loch for out next cache.

Our next target was 'Bothwellhaugh' the site of an old village which now lives under the lake! We found this one fairly easily and were delighted to find a tracker bug looking for a route to Japan!

Next up was 'Care of Magical Creatures' and when we hit ground zero it was easy to see why the cache got this name! It was like being in the forbidden forest. Unfortunately we could not find the cache this time, but we will be back! It was pretty hot by now, so we decided to pick up just one more with 'The Theme of This Cache is Amusing' which was a clever little magnetic cache near the theme park.

All in all we racked up 3.46 miles and 2 caches, plus a tracker bug which gets me back on track for my 20 mile challenge! Plus it's Day 3 of 100!!
